TRAINING GOAL
General Health
Purpose: Improve physical function, resilience, cardiometabolic health, independence, and quality of life.
Training philosophy
Health training should be broad, enjoyable, repeatable, and adaptable across decades. Optimization matters less than participation and adherence.
Practical starting point
- Accumulate 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75–150 minutes of vigorous activity weekly.
- Perform muscle-strengthening work at least two days weekly.
- Include balance, mobility, and enjoyable movement as needed.
- Progress gradually and choose activities you can repeat through busy seasons.
Nutrition
Build meals around varied plants, adequate protein, fibre-rich carbohydrates, and mostly minimally processed foods. Supplements should correct a demonstrated need or practical gap, not replace a chronically poor diet.
Watch for
A healthy diet does not need to be perfect, organic, clean, or free of enjoyable foods. The best plan is one you can sustain.
