TRAINING GOAL

Hypertrophy

Athlete training for muscle growth

Purpose: Make selected muscles larger while keeping joints and fatigue manageable.

Training philosophy

Muscle growth comes from repeatedly exposing a muscle to sufficient mechanical tension, then allowing it to recover. A wide range of loads can work when sets are challenging and the target muscle limits the set.

Practical starting point

Nutrition

Aim for roughly 1.6 g protein/kg/day, with a practical range of 1.4–2.0 g/kg/day. Eat enough carbohydrate for hard training and enough dietary fat for health and satisfaction. A small calorie surplus can support faster growth, though beginners may gain muscle at maintenance.

Watch for

You do not need soreness, a pump, drop sets, or failure to prove growth. Stable technique, progressive performance, adequate food, and recovery are the foundation.
