TRAINING GOAL
Explosiveness
Purpose: Produce force quickly. Power is not merely strength performed while tired.
Training philosophy
Explosive training requires speed, intent, coordination, and freshness. Once jump height, throw distance, sprint speed, or bar velocity clearly deteriorates, the set is training fatigue more than peak power.
Practical starting point
- Usually 1–5 explosive repetitions per set.
- Use body weight or light implements for jumps and throws; many loaded power exercises use roughly 30–70% 1RM.
- Start with 3–6 quality sets and low total contacts.
- Train 1–3 times weekly with 2–5 minutes rest as needed.
- Place explosive work after warm-up and before fatiguing work.
Nutrition
Avoid aggressive calorie deficits. Protein supports the strength base, carbohydrate supports repeated high-intensity efforts, and creatine is broadly useful for short, repeated work.
Watch for
Explosive work should look explosive. Endless high-repetition drills or unstable surfaces do not automatically improve useful power.
